Decaturville Mash #2 Decaturville is the official Dave Sharp fans weekend. Dedicated to the music of Dave Sharp, the weekend is a chance for fans to meet, chat, socialise (and share a few drinks!), all to the background of Dave Sharp's music. The Decaturville name takes it's name from Decatur Street in New Orleans' French Quarter, home of The Kerry Irish Bar where Dave Sharp was resident performer during much of the 90s and early 00's.2007 is the 180th anniversary of New Orlean's Mardi Gras celebration, the highlight of the New Orleans musical calendar. Although Dave left New Orleans in 2002 so couldn't attend the real Mardi Gras, he plans to celebrate the anniversary by bringing a little bit of Mardi Gras magic to Preston, Lancashire. |

Dave Sharp & The Hard Travellers featuring Ernie's Rhythm Section When Erin Sharp popped out of her office for lunch one day, the last thing she expected was to discover a new line up for The Hard Travellers (the regular guise for husband Dave's backing bands). But there busking in Manchester's St Annes Square, she found Ernie's Rhythm Section, four young guys from the small Cheshire town of Marple. So impressed by what she heard, she immediately phoned Dave to tell him she'd seen this band that would have gone down a storm in the blues bars of New Orleans (her & Dave's home for ten years up to 2002). As soon as Dave heard them play once, he was convinced he wanted to work with them. With 2007 being the 180th Anniversary of the first New Orleans Mardi Gras parade, Dave had been
searching for a musicians who could inject his music with some of the New Orleans vibe, but he had never imagined he would find a ready made band who could do this so well and just down the road from
him in Manchester. Ernie's Rhythm Section play blues so authentic and so you can't believe these guys are only in their early 20s.Dave and the band are now in rehearsals and Dave may pop up for the odd guest slot at Ernie's Rhythm Section gigs between now & April 21st when they will take to the stage in Preston as Dave Sharp And The Hard Travellers. To hear some of Ernie's Rhythm Section (without Dave Sharp) check out their Myspace site: www.myspace.com/onlyforthepleasure Supporting Artists Seamus Mcloughlin Seamus McLoughlin is a product of the Preston music scene, but one who may be a familiar name to Alarm fans across the UK, having supported both former lead singer Mike Peters and his
offshoot band Dead Men Walking in recent years, including playing the legendary Shepherd's Bush Empire in October 2006.Starting off busking around Ireland, guitar in hand, as an enthusiastic 18 year old, Seamus has slowly built a loyal following both in the UK and over the sea in the USA through support slots with Mike Peters, David Garza, Ocean Colour Scene & Reef and solo shows in coffee bars & pubs. Recently he took part in the "Britbus Tour" of America. The tour took in several major cities right across the country, from LA to New York City. The use of the tour is to highlight British talent in the U.S. It seems to have paid off for him and 2007 looks like being the year Seamus "makes it big", having earned an invite to play at the music industry's biggest showcase event, the South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas. Seamus will play 5 shows at SXSW in March 2007 which will bring his music to the attention of some of the biggest record companies, producers and agents in the world. And less than one month later, he'll be in Preston at Decaturville. www.seamusmcloughlin.co.uk http://www.myspace.com/seamusmcloughlin Rocketfox Rocketfox are Gary Johnstone (Gtr/Vox), Fiona Crawford (Bass/Vox) & Neil MacDougall (Drums). The Glasgow 3 piece have only been together since February 06 and have already played over 70 shows up and down Scotland that have gained them a reputation for unbeatable live performances and ever growing interest from the Scottish music press. They are also making a stir in the MySpace community, with over 5000 friends and growing. Their infectious hooklines and massive choruses with stadium-sing along potential join forces on the live stage with the free and outrageously untameable spirits of the three 22 year olds. Under influences, they've been known to scribble words like Foo Fighters, The Subways, Fall Out Boy, The Killers, New Found Glory, Avril Lavigne, Fightstar, Kelly Clarkson, Biffy Clyro, McFly, Thin Lizzy, Busted, Funeral For A Friend, Rage Against the Machine and Blink 182. Rocketfox appear at Decaturville at the end of a full UK tour in support of their single "Start All Over"which is now available from all live shows, Glasgow's Fopp record shops and as digital download from Itunes, Napster, MTV, CD WOW and all good music download sites. http://www.rocketfoxrock.net http://www.myspace.com/rocketfoxrock Booze'n'Daze Formed from the long overdue death of two wedding bands, John Ramsay met John Galbraith and formed Booze 'n' Daze.Blessed with accordion skills that he'd trade in a second to be a guitarist, JR decided to make the best of what he had and went MIDI years ago, leaving behind the traditional accordion sound and all the shortbread tin nonsense that`s associated with it in our part of the world (that's Perth, Scotland to the unaware)! "I`m a punk rocker trapped in an accordionists body!" JG has spent the last 50 years playing everything from rock to bluegrass, bass guitars, mandolin but has now settled into the role of oldest rocker in Perth as Booze'n' Daze trail the pub circuits of the fair city and beyond! Booze'N'Daze are Dave Sharp fans through and through, with sets regularly include a Sharp or Alarm track or two. Their Saturday afternoon slot at Decaturville #1 was one of the highlights of the weekend, once their unsuspecting audience got used to that just because it looks like an accordion doesn't mean it has to sound like one! Booze'N'Daze want all their shows to be relaxed & funny occasions. Moving up to an evening slot at Decaturville #2 will bring them a little closer to their ideal audience. JR says "Come and check us out, throw things, buy us drink, and generally just end up in the same drunken mess as everyone else who is associated with our quiet little band!" http://www.myspace.com/boozendaze Paul Heaton
Sadly the Decaturville team couldn't secure a performance from The Beautiful South's Paul Heaton, but in place of Paul from Hull, we have Paul From Preston. Quite convenient really, as he's also one of the organisers of this year's Decaturville event!Don't be misled into thinking that appearing at his own event is some kind of filler, Paul is a talented guitarist & singer. Many Sharp fans who have seen him in the audience of shows for many years were pleasantly surprised when he took to the stage at Decaturville in 2006 and delivered a professional & polished set. While he has no ambitions to be an international rock star, Paul takes his music seriously with Dave Sharp an obvious influence on his choice of material and style alongside The Alarm's post-punk contemporaries like Still Little Fingers & The Clash. The Surge
The Surge are Andy Hurley (guitar & lead vocals) & Dave Hindle (bass & vocals), Alan Williamson (drums & vocals).Folk music played the major role in Andy’s childhood, which give him the inspiration to start to pen his own songs at the age of 15 and he can often be seen at Stonehenge in the summer!! Originally a guitarist, Dave gave up his own 6 string ambitions for the greater good (although rumour has it he turned up late for the first rehearsal and the bass was all that was left!! Alan grew up listening to Queen, punk and Cat Stevens...well they do say drummers are a strange breed!! Silicon Talent The four piece formed in early 2006 include amongst their influences as Joy Division, Bloc Party, Radiohead, Explosions in the Sky, Bright Eyes, Mogwai amongst others. http://www.myspace.com/silicontalent Information on the other supporting artists appearing at Decaturville will appear here shortly. (As with all events of this nature, artist line up and schedule subject to change without notice) |

Preston, Lancashire Preston is approximately 35 miles (56km) north of Manchester & Liverpool. It has excellent transport links, being only 1 mile from the M6 motorway and on the main West Coast Rail Line between London & Glasgow, making it as little as 2 hours 10 minutes from London on Virgin's new Pendolino tilting trains.Preston's is the administrative capital of Lancashire with a history that dates back to the Doomsday Book and to 1179 with the granting of the Charter, which gave the right to hold a Guild Merchant every 20 years. In more recent times, Preston was at the heart of the industrial revolution and the textile industry that resulted. Although most of this industry is long gone, Preston still boasts many historic sights related to this part of it's past and some impressive architecture that resulted from the prosperity of old. For football fans, Preston North End football club were a founding member of the football league in 1888 and were the first Football League Champions. Today, their Deepdale stadium is home to the National Football Museum (www.nationalfootballmuseum.com).
